RASPBERRIES TO FOXNEWS FROM THE CORVALLIS GAZETTE TIMES ( A MARXIST SOCIALIST FISHWRAPPER ) Go out of Business GT.
RASPBERRIES to Fox News, for finding a way to combine racism and sexism into one quick on-air graphic Wednesday.
To accompany a segment by conservative commentator Michelle Malkin critical of Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, a Fox employee posted a caption that read “Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama’s baby mama!”
Unless used affectionately by the friends or family of a single mother, the term “baby mama” can be taken as derogatory street slang for an ex-boyfriend with whom one has a child. It’s inaccurate and inappropriate to describe a married woman this way, and it’s disrespectful, to say the very least. It’s also racist, as the term is most often applied to women of color (a recent comic movie by that title notwithstanding).
Malkin later clarified that she’d never seen the caption because she wasn’t near a monitor. She then pointed out her Web site that Michelle Obama had once referred to her husband as “My baby’s daddy,” implying that made it OK.
Fox has not fired the employee who posted the caption, but we suggest that person could benefit from racial and cultural sensitivity training — and maybe a dictionary of modern slang.
